Meet SUE the T. rex at the Field Museum, Without the Parking Fight

The Field Museum has SUE, Máximo the Titanosaur, ancient Egypt, and a brand-new Pokémon Fossil Museum for 2026. The only fossil-grade headache? Museum Campus parking. Here's what to see, and the easy way to get there.

The Field Museum is one of the great natural history museums on the planet, 30 million specimens, founded after the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, anchored by the most famous dinosaur in the world. Standing under SUE the T. rex in Stanley Field Hall is a genuine Chicago rite of passage, and 2026 brings a blockbuster new exhibition on top of it.

It's right on the Museum Campus next to the Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium, which is wonderful for a full day out, and a parking nightmare on busy days. Here's what's worth seeing this year, and why getting dropped at the steps beats circling Soldier Field.

What to See at the Field Museum in 2026

The permanent collection alone is a full day, and this year's headline exhibition is a major draw:

⚡ New for 2026: the Pokémon Fossil Museum

Making its North American debut at the Field Museum (May 22, 2026 – April 11, 2027), this exhibition pairs Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops with real-world fossils, SUE included. It's a huge family draw and timed tickets sell out, so book the exhibition ahead and let us handle getting you there on time.

SUE's display itself got a refresh in recent years, with newly added gastralia ("belly ribs") and a can't-miss light show that highlights key bones. The gallery is presented in both English and Spanish.

The Museum Campus Parking Problem

The Field shares the Museum Campus with the Shedd and Adler, and there's currently no street parking on Solidarity Drive, so most drivers funnel into the Soldier Field North Garage or a nearby lot:

Parking OptionTypical CostThe Catch
Soldier Field North Garage (up to 4 hrs)~$25–27Short visits
Garage (4–12 hrs)~$30–35A typical museum day
Garage (12–24 hrs)~$50–52Long days
Bears home-game days~$55Fills hours early

On Bears game days and concert days, the garage can fill hours before the event and cars get metal-detector inspected at the entrance, expect long delays and a real risk of "Lot Full" signs. As one parent guide put it, you end up circling Soldier Field while the kids melt down in the back.

Why Take a Limo to the Field Museum?

For families, school groups, birthdays, or out-of-town guests, a limo or black car turns the worst part of the day into the easiest:

  • Dropped at the steps: Right at the Field Museum entrance, no pedestrian-tunnel walk from a distant garage.
  • Zero parking fees: Skip the $25–55 garage and the metal-detector line on event days.
  • No circling, no stress: Your chauffeur handles the Museum Campus chaos while you relax.
  • Pair it with the Shedd & Adler: Book hourly and hit all three with no re-parking.
  • Flat-rate, no surge: Know the price up front, even on the busiest Saturday.

Make a Full Museum Campus Day

Since you're not tied to a parking spot, it's easy to turn the Field into a bigger outing, three world-class attractions sit side by side:

  • Pair the Field with the Shedd Aquarium (belugas, sharks, the new 4D theater) next door
  • Catch a show at the Adler Planetarium with the best skyline view in the city
  • Walk the lakefront path or grab lunch downtown afterward
  • Add a stop in the South Loop or Grant Park on the way back

With an hourly chauffeur, you hop between all of it without re-parking or re-paying once, and the kids never have to trek through a parking garage.

Field Museum Limo FAQ

Where does the limo drop us off at the Field Museum?+
Your chauffeur drops you right at the Field Museum entrance, no walking up from the Soldier Field garage through the pedestrian tunnels, and coordinates a pickup spot for when you're done.
Is a limo worth it over parking at Museum Campus?+
On a normal day parking is $25–52; on Bears game days it's around $55 and the garage fills early. For a group or family, once you factor in parking, gas, and the time spent circling, a flat-rate ride is often comparable, and far less stressful with kids in tow.
Can you take us to the Shedd and Adler too?+
Yes. Book hourly and we'll shuttle you around the whole Museum Campus and beyond, no re-parking or re-paying. We can also do a simple timed pickup if you prefer.
Do you have room for strollers and school groups?+
Absolutely. Our SUVs and Sprinter vans have plenty of room for strollers, bags, and family gear, and we can coordinate multiple vehicles for larger groups or school trips.
Should I book the Pokémon Fossil Museum ahead?+
Yes, the Pokémon Fossil Museum uses timed tickets and demand is high, so reserve your exhibition entry directly with the Field Museum. We'll make sure you arrive in time for your slot.
