Navy Pier This Summer: Fireworks, the Ferris Wheel & the Easy Way to Get There

Navy Pier is rolling out its biggest summer ever in 2026, twice-weekly fireworks, a brand-new roller rink, and the Centennial Wheel's 10th birthday. Here's what's on, and why a limo to the door beats the $65 garage and the fireworks-night gridlock.

Navy Pier is the most-visited attraction in the Midwest, and in 2026 it's putting on its largest free summer programming lineup ever. Between the fireworks, the Ferris wheel, lakefront concerts, and a brand-new attraction, it's the perfect day or night out, especially when you've got out-of-town guests to impress.

The one catch is the same as every great Chicago spot: getting there and parking. The pier's garages run up to $65 a day and fill fast on fireworks nights, while Streeterville street meters sit at $4.75/hour and are nearly impossible to find. Here's what's worth seeing this summer, and the stress-free way to arrive.

What's On at Navy Pier in 2026

This season celebrates some big milestones, the Centennial Wheel's 10th anniversary, the 100th anniversary of Route 66, and America 250, with new programming all summer:

  • Free summer fireworks: Every Wednesday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 10 p.m., from May 23 through early September. Choreographed to music over Lake Michigan, voted among the best fireworks in the country.
  • Biggest Fourth of July show ever: For the first time in over a decade, a major Saturday-night July 4 celebration with an expanded display for America 250.
  • Summer Skate at the Pier (NEW): A roller-skating experience opening June 18 in the former Crystal Gardens space, with themed skate nights, DJs, and arcade games.
  • Lake Stage Summer Concert Series: Free live music and community events in Polk Bros Park all season.
  • Festivals: Pride celebrations, LatiNxt Festival, Fresh Fest, and more across the summer.

The Classic Attractions

  • Centennial Wheel: Nearly 200 feet up, with climate-controlled gondolas year-round, open 11 a.m.–9 p.m. (later on weekends).
  • FlyOver Chicago: An immersive flight ride with motion seats, wind, mist, and scents.
  • Chicago Children's Museum: Three floors of interactive exhibits, a family favorite.
  • Pier Park rides: Carousel, wave swinger, and tea cups, open seasonally.
  • Boat tours & water taxis: Architecture cruises and lake rides right from the dock.

Fireworks night tip

On firework Wednesdays and Saturdays, the East Garage fills first and traffic backs up well before showtime. The South Dock has the closest views over the water. When you're dropped off and picked up by a chauffeur, you arrive relaxed and skip the post-show parking-garage crawl entirely.

2026 Summer Fireworks Schedule

Free shows run twice a week from late May through early September. Here's the rhythm to plan around:

WhenTimeNotes
Wednesdays9:00 p.m.~10-minute show, May 23–early Sept
Saturdays10:00 p.m.~10-minute show, May 23–early Sept
Saturday, July 410:00 p.m.Biggest show ever (America 250)
Labor Day weekendSat 10:00 p.m.Season finale

Shows are weather-permitting and dates can shift, confirm the current schedule at navypier.org before you go.

The Parking Reality at Navy Pier

The pier has two on-site garages (East and West) holding about 1,500 cars, convenient, but pricey and quick to fill on busy nights:

OptionCostThe Catch
On-site garage (1 hr)~$16–21Short stops only
On-site garage (full day)up to $65East Garage fills first
Park & Dine validation$20 / 2.5 hrsMust dine at a participating spot
Streeterville street meters$4.75 / hrVery limited, time-restricted

On fireworks nights and summer weekends, garages back up and the surrounding Streeterville streets gridlock, exactly when you'd rather be watching the sky light up over the lake than circling for a spot.

Why Take a Limo to Navy Pier?

For date nights, family outings, fireworks, or showing off the city to visitors, a limo turns the logistics into part of the experience:

  • Dropped at the entrance: Right at the pier, no garage levels, no walk in from a meter.
  • No parking fees: Skip the $16–65 garage and the fireworks-night scramble.
  • A driver who waits: After the fireworks, your chauffeur is ready, no rideshare surge, no crowd scramble.
  • Make a night of it: Dinner on the Mag Mile, the Wheel at sunset, fireworks over the lake, all on one booking.
  • Flat-rate, no surge: Know the price up front, even on the Fourth of July.

Navy Pier Limo FAQ

Where does the limo drop us off at Navy Pier?+
Your chauffeur drops you at the pier entrance off Grand Avenue, as close as game-night and event traffic allows, then coordinates a pickup spot for after, no garage levels, no walk from a meter.
Is a limo worth it over parking at the pier?+
On a busy night you'd pay up to $65 to park, if you can find a spot before the garage fills. For a group or a special night out, a flat-rate ride is often comparable once you add gas, parking, and time, and far less stressful.
Can you wait through the fireworks and pick us up after?+
Yes. Book hourly and we'll handle dinner stops, wait through the show, and take you home or out after, while everyone else fights the post-fireworks rideshare surge.
Do you have room for strollers and car seats?+
Absolutely. Our SUVs and Sprinter vans have plenty of room for strollers, bags, and family gear. Just let us know when booking and we'll match the right vehicle.
How far ahead should I book for July 4 or a fireworks night?+
The Fourth of July and summer Saturdays are the busiest nights of the season. Book at least a week or two ahead for those, though we'll always try to fit in last-minute requests.

End the Night With a Bang, Not a Parking Bill.

Make the trip to Navy Pier part of the magic. Book a flat-rate Chicago limo, get dropped at the pier, and leave the lakefront traffic and fireworks-night parking to someone else.
